Pennbrook Farm

About Us . . .

We are a family of people who love old houses, American history, and the restoration process. Jim is an engineering manager, Jean is a registered emergency room nurse, and our two beloved sons are Matthew and Billy.

We have lived in Northeast Pennsylvania since 1990, having built our first house here. That is another story in itself that will be delved into more in the Chronicles . Jim has loved old houses all his life, having grown up in a 1924 Craftsman Colonial in northern New Jersey. This house was built by his great grandfather, and has never been owned by anyone outside the family. Jean, on the other hand, grew to love old houses over time. Jean also grew up in northern New Jersey in a nice suburban subdivision in a house built in the 1950s. In 2002 we found our "retirement home" in the Pensylvania mountains.

Jim has many hobbies and interests, including classic car restoration, amateur auto racing (road course), photography, gardening and, of course, restoration. Jean is actively involved with Boy Scouts, serving as the Den leader for both our boys Dens, and now as Assistant Cub Master of our Pack (Pack 75 in Tannersville, PA). She also loves to garden, build photo album "scrapbooks", and puts up with Jim's many hobbies! Jean is also an excellent cook, and is an aspiring canner and jam maker. With our new found garden and room to grow whatever we wish, the whole family looks forward to the yummy preserves that will line the pantry shelves in the seasons to come.

Matthew was born in 1992, and Billy came along in 1994. Matthew is the thinker; shy, but not painfully so. He has a wonderful wit and sense of humor. He is very interested in the sciences, American history, and motorsports. Billy, on the other hand, is our extrovert. Always smiling, talking and enjoying life. Billy rhymes with silly, and that is one of Billy's favorite things to be! Both boys play sports, are active in Scouting, and are good students.

So much for the introductions. Please move on to the more interesting stories about our old farmhouse, and be sure to check out the history of our home over the last 185 years or so. There are also lots of pictures to look at too.
